Wind warning issued for weekend and Friday's rain warning updated

The Met Office has issued an update to the yellow weather warning for rain for Friday and issued a new yellow weather warning for wind for the weekend.

Rain warning

Warning now runs from 6am to 11.59pm on Friday

Warning area remains the same, covering the majority of the region with the exception of some communities on the east coast and those south of Duns, Kelso, Jedburgh and Bonchester Bridge

Up to 40mm of rain likely widely

Up to 80mm possible in some locations

Risk of flooding and travel disruption

Be prepared for rain and flooding

Wind warning

Warning runs from 6pm on Saturday to 9pm on Sunday

Warning area covers the whole of Scotland, with the exception of Shetland

Gusts of up to 65mph likely widely

Coastal or exposed areas could see gusts of 80mph or more

Strong winds will be combined with spells of heavy rain

Risk of damage to buildings, flying debris, travel disruption and power cuts

Be prepared for high winds

An area of heavy rain will develop across southern and central areas of Scotland early on Friday in association with Storm Austen, extending over north east Scotland during the morning and early afternoon. The rain will turn lighter and clear from the west through the evening and overnight.

Storm Boelo will then bring strong westerly winds to northern parts of the UK during Saturday evening. Very windy conditions will persist overnight and through much of Sunday before gradually easing from the south west later.
